What We Handle for Imports into India

  • Ocean (FCL and LCL) and air freight arrival in Chennai
  • Bill of Entry filing and customs clearance
  • HS code and duty guidance before the cargo ships
  • Port, container freight station and warehouse coordination
  • Domestic transport to your factory or warehouse anywhere in India

Documents Needed to Import into India

The Indian importer needs a valid Import Export Code (IEC). The shipment needs a commercial invoice, packing list and a Bill of Lading or Air Waybill, and the Bill of Entry is filed electronically through ICEGATE. Customs duty and IGST are calculated on the HS code and assessable value. Some products also need approvals such as BIS certification, FSSAI registration for food, or other licences, and these should be arranged before the goods ship. Our customs clearance checklist walks through the full list.

Chennai Port and Airport Handling

We clear cargo through Chennai Port and Chennai International Airport and can coordinate with nearby Tamil Nadu ports. Early document sharing and early filing of the Bill of Entry are the best ways to keep storage, demurrage and detention charges down, which is explained in our guide to demurrage and detention charges.
